I started investing young and was told negative gearing was the answer. You “delay gratification” and “lose money now, so you can make money later”.

7 properties later and I was shelling out $36,000 a year just to hold onto my portfolio (a third of my young family’s gross income). I felt like a slave to the banks, working long hours under extreme financial stress. I was living a miserable life.

The crunch came when I had to offload everything in a fire sale that cost us $300,000 in just a few weeks. I was devastated, but I knew there had to be a better way.
